National Lung Cancer Screening Program

Peninsula Private Hospital now offers a Rapid Lung Access Program as part of the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (LCSP), an Australian Government–funded initiative aimed at detecting lung cancer earlier in high-risk individuals.

Screening is performed using a low-dose CT (LDCT) scan, which can identify lung abnormalities in individuals without symptoms.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible for lung cancer screening if you:

  • Are aged 50–70 years
  • Have a smoking history of at least 30 pack-years
  • Currently smoke, or have quit within the past 10 years

Screening must be requested by a General Practitioner (GP), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) and is supported by Medicare.

  • Coordination of further investigation and treatment

For patients

Lung cancer screening is arranged through a GP, Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW). Your clinician will assess suitability for the program and arrange referral if appropriate.
