New Emergency Department Opening Monday 22nd August 2016

Jun 22, 2016

A major milestone in the provision of private hospital care will be reached on Monday 22nd August 2016, when the doors open to the first private emergency department on the Mornington Peninsula.

The new Emergency Department is part of a transformative expansion of Ramsay Health Care’s Peninsula Private Hospital, Frankston offering a much anticipated and valuable direct emergency medical service for the region, including Frankston, Mornington Peninsula, Bass Coast, Bayside and surrounding communities.

Around the clock emergency care, as well as a new onsite Ramsay pharmacy will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Highly qualified emergency and critical care trained medical specialists and nurses together with on call doctors in the fields of cardiology and cardiac surgery, orthopaedics, general surgery, general medicine, plastic surgery, urology and vascular surgery will support the service. 24hour Intensive Care and Cardiac Catheter Lab support will be available.

Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Private Hospital, Mr Paul Geddes is delighted with the new facilities and increased capacity. “The state of the art emergency department will include ten general patient observation and two resuscitation bays, a dedicated suite for managing patients with an infectious condition, fully equipped procedure room and purpose built Ambulance Victoria facilities. In addition, we have added a further two new overnight medical wards, each comprising thirty private rooms with ensuite facilities to service the anticipated patient demand. Our new 24hour Ramsay Retail Pharmacy will also provide a much needed service to not only our patients but also the general public. This is an exciting addition to the current services we offer as the largest and most advanced private hospital in the region. We will continue to provide the highest quality of private hospital care with the best possible patient outcomes.

Dr Barry Chan, Director of the new Emergency Department, states that “We will also continue to facilitate direct access for cardiac event management such as heart attacks by taking patients straight into the Cath Lab when required. This service is provided by our Cardiologists and surgeons, who, for many years, have delivered one of the best cardiology services in the State.”

The new Emergency Department will offer patients the additional benefit of minimum wait times to access private emergency medical care when they need it most, with the cost to access this service to be one of Victoria’s lowest.
