Peninsula Private’s $2.2 Million Expansion

The new facilities include a 7 berth Day Chemotherapy Unit that has been designed to create a relaxing environment while offering the highest standards of excellence in equipment and care. Patients no longer have to travel to the CBD to receive their chemotherapy treatment in a dedicated unit with full access to onsite pharmacy, radiology, pathology, and direct hospital admission should it be required. The level of care provided by Peninsula Private’s 4 Oncologists, Haematologist, and 8 oncology nurses, specially trained in cannulation and chemotherapy administration, is of the highest standard available anywhere in Australia.

Virginia Howard, Unit Manager, says that the number of cancer patients coming to Peninsula Private has doubled in the past 2 years. She attributes this to an increasing awareness of the importance of early detection, the availability of outstanding medical treatment locally, and a growth in population. These community demands have lead to the expansion and improvement of local cancer services at Peninsula Private. 70% of the patients coming through the unit are women, many receiving treatment for breast cancer. It is estimated that 1 in 12 women will be diagnosed during their lifetime but with early detection and appropriate treatment have an 80% chance of a full recovery.
