Key-hole Surgery at Peninsula Private Hospital
June 2005
A young woman diagnosed with a benign tumour had almost half of her stomach removed this week through key-hole surgery at Peninsula Private Hospital. The surgeon, Mr Geoff Draper, has confirmed that the patient is ready to go home only 1 week after her surgery. The advanced equipment now available at Peninsula Private is, for the first time, making this type of gastric key-hole surgery available on the Mornington Peninsula.
The advantages of key-hole, or laparoscopic surgery are considerable; the patient spends half as long in hospital, makes a full recovery in half the time, is in much less pain, requires less medication, and the incisions are only 5mm, instead of the 20cm (at least) of a traditional procedure.
Marie Tompson couldn’t be happier both with the outcome of this new procedure and the fact that she could have it performed locally at Peninsula Private.
