Cath Lab

The first stage of redevelopment at Peninsula Private Hospital was completed last week with the official opening of the new Cardiac Catheter Lab taking place on the 27th July with procedures commencing the following day.

The hospital now has two cardiac capable labs and one hybrid lab to perform vascular procedures and cardiac cases.

New equipment in the recently opened lab includes state of the art Phillips Catheter lab equipment with a manoeuvrable diagnostic table allowing greater access. As well as the Zero Gravity System, this is a suspended radiation shield. The lab will be capable of performing newer procedures that are less invasive including Watchman Implantation for prevention of stroke secondary to blood clot formation.

The availability of another Cardiac Catheter lab means patients of the Mornington Peninsula that may have previously had to travel to Melbourne can now have their procedure done closer to home.

There will be greater access as it will allow for Cardiologists to operate simultaneously and there will be less need for an overnight stay with improved access to day procedures.

Also part of the redevelopment, four additional Intensive Care Unit beds have opened to support the cardiac catheter labs.
