New Hybrid Operating Theatre now open at Peninsula Private Hospital, Frankston

Apr 01, 2015

The first purpose-built Hybrid operating theatre on the Mornington Peninsula has opened at Peninsula Private Hospital in Frankston.

The $4 million Hybrid OT is part of a $55 million expansion project at Peninsula Private. This new type of operating theatre is equipped with state of the art medical imaging technology, allow cardiac, vascular and advanced surgical teams the flexibility to perform complex minimally-invasive, image-guided endovascular procedures in conjunction with traditional open surgery, all in the one theatre.

This means that patients can be treated in the one theatre session under the one anaesthetic, rather than in separate stages in different theatres, reducing the time spent in the operating room, the anaesthetic risk and the length of the hospital stay, resulting in less discomfort, faster recovery times and fewer risks for patients.

The Hybrid OT will be used for many specialist disciplines, including cardiac interventions, thoracic and vascular surgery and cardiac electrophysiology studies.
